Ashland Kentucky Pride Meeting Minutes

Attending: Holly (she/her), Jenee (she/her), Sean (he/him), Elliot (he/they), Sophie (they/them, she/her)

Absent:   Lu (she/her), Desire’ (she/her), Kasheena (she/her), Heather (she/her) 


The meeting was called to order by Holly (President) at 1:47 pm.

Holly made a motion to accept the meeting minutes for the month of September. Sean seconded. Motion approved.

Holly made a motion to receive the treasurer’s report for the month of September. Sean seconded. Motion approved.

Treasurer's report: Paypal: $1999.86(not updated) • People’s: $2,687.33  (+349.58 in old account)   

  • Voting for the open board position will be held at the end of the meeting

Old Business:

  • Fundraising/Sponsorship requests

    • We are down 2 grants this year

    • EVERYONE needs to be coming up with ideas to make money and places to send sponsorship requests

    • Community grant - due tomorrow

      • Up to $10,000 for a program (youth, YMA) or organizational costs. Not events.

      • Join forces with AFC to fund an inflatable sensory cube

    • Possible “Battle of the Bands” or music festival fundraiser for pride and afc 

      • Sophie can talk to person from trans musical festival

      • Aaron can talk to his contacts

  • Y’all Means All 

    • Did anyone reach out to First Methodist?

      • No, Sean will do it today

    • Holly is re-designing the sticker with QR code

  • Safe Zone Training 

  • Community Survey

    • Google form ready, can launch on FB today

  • Girl Scouts

    • Holly met with someone from girl scouts of eastern ky

    • Scouts and earn a LGBTQ badge

    • Need 3-6 activities from the list to get a badge

    • We will host an event for them to attend with a variety of activities with the potential to get their badge

    • Team up with youth pride and utilize programs from safe zone training (ex, how to create a safe space, or help people that are coming out)

    • Pass out a “helpful ally” zine

    • Give a “You are safe with me” button to give them

    • Could also use the teen girl scouts that need volunteer hours

    • Tentative date June 14th

  • Pride Picnic venue/date change

    • We have to make a decision now

    • Look into the convention center as an option - need an exploratory committee on the viability of this venue for any of our events

      • Security challenges- if we cant security, then we cant use them

      • Can we sell tickets?

      • What are the pros/cons of using this venue for any of our events

      • Sensory issue

      • Aaron has a contact

    • Move to May

      • Better weather

      • Ahead of pride month instead of after

  • Pikeville Pride (October 12)

    • Didn't get registered in time

    • Group trip to help support - need to register tickets

  • Huntington Pride (October 19)

    • Tabling - probably not

    • Other ways to help - attend or help with repainting the jewel

New Business:

  • Organizational reset for the upcoming year—focussing on foundations, organizational documents, and goals

  • Found Family planning

    • Form a committee

    • Needs rebranding- finding family, forged family

    • Small social gathering groups

      • Book club, table top groups, ect

    • How can we get more people to attend

    • Events 

      • Go as a gay caravan to out of town events

      • Go as a group to local events to give people a safe goup/support

      • Halloween photo shoot in the park

      • Pumpkin carving

      • Christmas light tour

      • Paint and sip

      • Movie night

      • Poetry reading/ art

      • Educational workshop

      • Gay minecraft server

      • relaxation/meditation/yoga class

  • Training with Amelia/KPU about political violence - November 2nd 

    • What it is and how to combat it

    • Be prepared for possible violence from the upcoming election 

    • KPU inviting organizations from all over KY

    • Most likely at the library, event will be posted soon

  • Holigay/Masquerade 

    • Holigay

      • Replace holigay with a smaller event, cheaper

      • Have small events, try to make money, no big events

      • Potlucks, homemade food, more like friends giving

      • Holigay used to be our biggest fundraiser, so we need to find other ways to make money

      • smaller, more frequent events for holidays  (craft nights, potlucks) 

      • Lower or remove ticket price. Merch or donations to make money

    • Masquerade

      • Move it to a different time of year

  • Vote for the open board position

    • Taz was the only one who ran

    • Board voted to appoint her


Upcoming Events:

  • Pikeville Pride - Saturday, October 12, 12:00 pm

  • Huntington Pride - Saturday, October 19, 3:00 pm

  • AKP meeting - Sunday, November 3, 1:30 pm


Holly made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Sean seconded. Motion passed.
